Xie Xie is the most common way of saying thank you in Mandarin. It is pronounced "zhay zhay". It consists of the verb xie doubled, and is often used in a casual way. The literal meaning of this would be "thanks thanks". The more formal way of saying thank you would be xie ni (literally, "thank you") or xie nin (literally "thank you sir".

The pronunciation is more like "ssyé ssyé" or sometimes in the south of China: "shiye shiye".
