laptop computer, circa
1987, marketed by
Yamaha's
musical instrument division. It had an
Intel 80286 chip, ran
MS-DOS, and was usually bundled with DOS
MIDI software, because its main selling point was that it had MIDI ports, probably the first laptop to have them.
Atari, with its
Atari ST, had introduced the notion of a computer having built-in MIDI, and there were always rumors, here and there, of an impending musician-friendly ST laptop, but Yamaha beat them to the punch in that regard.
Confusingly, the C1 is also the name of a brand of Yamaha grand piano.
