A method of designing aircraft to minimize drag in order to achieve supersonic flight. The cross-section of the aircraft is distributed to as closely resemble the ideal body of minimum drag for a desired speed as possible. Typically, transonic area rule fuselages will have a coke bottle shape, narrowing the fuselage at the point where the wings are attached.
