Basketball term for the half of the court which does not include the offensive team's target basket. In other words, the offensive team's "back" half of the court.
The offensive team's backcourt is the same part of the court as the other team's frontcourt.
The backcourt also refers collectively to a team's point guard and shooting guard, who usually play offense closer to a team's backcourt (and further from the target basket).
