Technique within making of furniture. Pioneered by Michael Thonet around 1840, after experiments where done on the making of the Windsor chair as early as in the 18th century. Bent wood furniture is based on rods of wood bent by steam to get the desired shape.

Furniture made by this technique is usually inexpensive, comfortable and light and has been successfully used in restaurants, cafés and shops since it was introduced internationally at the World's Fair in 1851. It was among the first kinds of furniture to be mass-produced.

During the 20th century Le Corbusier picked up on the tradition and used it extensively in his works, and even got it produced by Michael Thonets own company, Gebrüder Thonet.
