As a
college student, I was appalled upon seeing, on their first trip to a
bar, inexperienced freshmen ordering drinks such as a
rum and coke or
screwdriver or
shots. Vestiges of a
furtive night in a friend's room in their sophomore year of
prep school risking
expulsion for some
cheap-vodka-that-comes-in-a-plastic-jug and
orange juice.
If you're going to a bar, make the
barkeep earn his
tip.
Here is a recipe for my drink-- the
Brandy Flip--
arrogance and
sweetness distilled and mixed.. Most bars will not or cannot make this for you-- all the better to show off your new-found
pomposity. Ask that it be made with
Hennessy X.O. or
Courvoisier.
Ingredients:
2 oz Brandy
1 whole Egg
1 tsp superfine Sugar
1/2 oz Light cream
1/8 tsp grated Nutmeg
Mixing instructions:
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, egg, sugar, and cream. Shake well. Strain into a sour glass and garnish with the nutmeg.
