Acronym: Computer Aided Design. The use of computer software to assist in the creation and revision of engineering drawings. Some programs aren't much better than an old-style drafting board, while others can completely reshape the engineering design process.

U.S. Military acronym meaning Cartridge Actuated Device. CADs are small explosive charges designed to start everything from ejection seat rocket motors, release canopies, discharge engine fire bottles, and sever snarled cables. Also referred to as Impulse Cartridges.
