A charpoy, also known as a charpai (from char paya, meaning "four legs"), is a traditional bed in widespread use in northern India, consisting of a carved wooden frame strung with ropes of woven jute.
Simple, cheap, and surprisingly much more comfortable than they look, these beds are absolutely ubiquitous in India, even today.
