Probably the most valuable member of the mineral family chalcedony, for its apple-green color; the drawback to chrysoprase is that exposure to intense sunlight makes the color fade. Faded chrysoprase is sometimes passed off as jade.

Chrys"o*prase (?), n. [OE. crisopace, OF. crisoprace, F. chrysoprase, L. chrysoprasus, fr. Gr. ; gold + leek.] Min.

An apple-green variety of chalcedony, colored by nickel. It has a dull flinty luster, and is sometimes used in jewelry.
