dévergondé

French word which I've interpreted as meaning "one who is truly shameless, is wildly indulgent and live life with complete and utter abandonment and disregard for morals or virtue."

Also an independent film made in Prince Edward Island which gained some notoriety. The story followed psychiatric patient Michel Gammond, who was institutionalized following a series of psychotic episodes related to sleep deprivation and nightmarish hallucinations.

The doctor in charge of Gammond, one Louis Respin, was conducting research into phobia and fear-related illness. Against his second-in-command's arguments, Respin prescribed Gammond experimental hallucinogens, telling the patient that this would help to nullify his episodes. Of course the opposite happened, and Respin became obsessed with the results.

An interesting film, which received some critical acclaim; rather surprising for an Island production.
