A
behemoth boat/processing
factory used by mega-
fishing corporations. These
boats cast
nets on the
ocean floor which can drag behind the boat as far as a
mile. The nets, of course,
snag everything in their path, so when they are pulled up, far less than 10% of the contents are usable. The rest of the
catch, more often than not, either
dies or
suffers considerable
damage. This type of fishing is responsible for the severe
depopulation of
marine habitats - over 70% of the
world's
seas are either depleted, barely recovering from
depletion or on the verge of depletion.
