The land set aside by the
American government for
native peoples. These started out much larger than they are, present day. Now they are generally just small dots on the map, no larger than a
small town.
Nominally, these are
sovereign states, run by
tribal governments.
Increasingly, people on the
reservation live off of
tourism and
retail. Many reservations (at least in
Washington) have relaxed
gambling laws, and sell things like
cigarettes and
fireworks cheaper than they are sold off of the
rez.
