A
chiding remark used when someone
avoids thinking about or
confronting the
problems that exists in the
world. Usually if that person didn’t
look the other way they would see some form of
human or
environmental suffering or impending
danger that was of such a
striking nature that failing to do anything about it would result in a large amount of
guilt. By ignoring the problem it becomes easy
go on living guilt free.
Things that make people look the other way:
- poverty
- environmental crisis
- sweat shop labor
- material waste
- self destructive behavior of peers
- urban decay
- racism
- sexism
- domestic violence
- exploitation
- the homeless
- the jobless
- the lost
- suffering
- pain
. . . just to name a few.
