Everyone knows that unicorns
aren't really real, but if they
were my friend would remind
me of one. Her hair is like
the softest golden
silk
, her
skin is truly
alabaster
, are
her lashes longer, or darker?
It's always hard to say.
When another friend of mine
was sobbing
over a guy
who
played some games with her
my unicorn friend bought
flowers for her. I got flowers
when I had babies and once
or twice a guy gave them to
me, I was in awe of that gift.
No matter what I tell my
unicorn friend she seems
to magically understand,
except for the time I tried
to explain what foolish
pride
was to her. She
doesn't have any, that's
how I know she's a
unicorn
.
My unicorn friend always
smells good. She eats
soup
with oyster crackers and
smiles her artifice free
grin as if she's surrounded
by a forest glade of
enchanted delights
instead of upstairs at work.
Before I met her I didn't
believe that anyone could
be so wonderfully empathetic
and carefree, spontaneous,
silly, supportive, full of
positivity, warmth, and
scented like the bubbles
she loves to put in her
bath
.
People have told me that
I take life
way too seriously
,
I don't know how others
are feeling because a lot
of the time I can't figure
out what to call my emotions.
My unicorn friend bursts into
tears when others do, it's cool.
I want to do something
really special for her, but
what do you give a mythical
creature who doesn't seem
to care about possessions?
I wish I had a way to say,
hey, you're like
baseball
,
only better. Is that lame?
I have a feeling that I
could shop from now until
the world ends without
finding a gift that would
be special enough for her.
The best thing is, I know
she will understand and
not even care if she doesn't
receive a thing. That's how
I know,
she really is
a real live true unicorn.
For Abby, who was born on the thirteenth. Xoxo...
