Noor is perhaps my favorite word in Arabic. Spelled with the letters Noon-Wow-Ra; نور (I think). It means "Light"

I find that the word Noor is used frequently. It's a girl's name in Arabic; Queen Noor of Jordan is perhaps the most notable character to have the name. It's also a chapter of the Quran, it's the name of many Mosques; "Masjid Noor."

Angels are said to be made out of Noor. It is said that if you look at the face of a pious Muslim, you can see the Noor radiating from them. Also, Noor will be radiating from those who are seated next to the throne of God on Judgement Day. Many Arabic and Urdu poems and nasheeds (Islamic poetry) make use of the word, ie. "The streets of Medina are filled with Noor..."

One of the best compliments I ever received was when I went to an Afghani friend's house during Ramadan for a dinner. Later, the host said that her grandmother thought I was an Arab, she said "he has sooo much Noor on his face." I still think that was one of the nicest things someone has said about me.
