A production server usually refers to a network server that is in use for it's normal intended purpose. That is, not the test server. Not the toy server. Not the server you can screw up. No, this is the main server, the real server, the one that causes large volumes of e-mail to land in your box if it goes down. Not that my server would ever go down, but you get the idea. ;)
