Something which is so unsettlingly odd that it is disturbing. It also has an iconoclastic quality which tends to make it both memorable and haunting.

The loveable skeleton-like doll owned by Tenna in the comic I Feel Sick by Jhonen Vasquez. Spooky has a very large head, in comparison to the rest of his body, and very big skeleton eyes. Teena often tries to use Spooky to allow her friend Devi to open up and discuss her feelings by shoving Spooky in her face and imploring, “Talk to Spooky!”

Monkey Fun Toys, a division of Slave Labor Graphics, produced a toy version of Spooky in 2000. Both Spooky’s head and body squeak, providing fun and amusement for all.

The box recommends the following uses for Spooky:

  • Throw it at someone’s head many times and then get beat up.
  • Combat the powers of evil using patented holy squeek technology.
  • Gnaw on it real good then produce horribly malformed chemical babies.
  • See just how much grating noise human ears can tolerate.
  • Use it as a makeshift urinal (girly attachment coming soon).
