In several mystical traditions (including Huna, Kabala, and Feri) the talking-self is one of the three souls which along with the dense, physical body (AKA the goof) constitute a human being.

The talking-self is the conscious, verbal soul. The talking-self is the CPU of a person and is located in the brain. The talking-self does all cognitive tasks requiring the symbolic manipulation of language and the expression of intention and attention. The talking-self is that part of our selves which seeks (with greater or lessor success) to impose our desires on the consensus reality.

The talking-self is called the uhani in Huna and the ruach in Kabala.
