To compare; a public communication ignores the addressee, and hence expects no reply, a communiqué is an official intimation. The first known usage is from 1852, From French communiquer meaning communicated,(to inform). Originally it was a past participle of communiquer "to communicate," from the Latin communicare. In 1920 a communiqué was defined by the American Field Service in France as " the official statement concerning military events at the front, issued daily from Army Headquarters."

Other forms of communique would include the following; bulletin, message, wire, fax, telegram, TelemessageTM, telex, cable, cablegram, notice, order, briefing, instruction.

Some synonyms would be dispatch and despatch. A communique typically includes a date, and often with a place, to, as of a newspaper article story or account.
