Film directed by
Ben Younger starring
Giovanni Ribisi,
Vin Diesel and
Ben Affleck. Basically deals with the life of Seth Davis, a young college
dropout starting with a small
casino. Eventually his father finds out about it and he has to pursue more legitamate work. He ends up working for a small
brokerage where he has to pitch stocks to people over the phone. The young
brokers are taught that money is all that matters and to "
act as if." He knows that something
shady is going on, but not exactly what, the money is great, and that's the only thing that matters to him.
Eventually you see how the people who buy the stock are affected, many have their lives ruined. At that point I realized that many of the decisions you make affect people other than yourself. Aside from the plot itself, the movie is well filmed and the soundtrack which is composed of hip-hop and some good instrumental pieces fits it quite well. The DVD's MPEG encoding is razor sharp and nearly artifact free.
Boiler Room can also refer to the type of brokerage portrayed in the film, where stocks are sold over the phone to impressionable people.
