The term 'bishounen' is mainly used to describe attractive, feminine men from
manga and
anime series.
While this category describes a visual appearance, rather than a character type, bishounen often play the part of the ideal love intrest - at any rate, their personalities tend to be as attractive as they are - though there are, of course, a number of exceptions. They also tend to kick a fair amount of ass.
For additional examples, check out anything by
Watase Yuu (like
Fushigi Yuugi),
Shoujo Kakumei Utena and, as previously mentioned, most stuff by

For a good contrast look at the two main male figures in
Berserk; Griffiths is, Gatts is not.
Hotohori, from
Fushigi Yuugi is my personal favorite, though Zagato, from
Magic Knights Rayearth is a close second.
on a related note; It had been noted at the
bishonen node that the term 'bishounen' implied homosexual relations - this is not true.
shonen-ai and
Yaoi are terms for male/male relation ships in
manga/anime.
