Been online since 1992, still remember using unix 'talk' between a pair of computers in a big lab with a friend, and getting excited for the future when everyone would have it... and what do we have? A bazillion proprietary protocols fighting aga.inst a few free ones. Same goes for HTTP in many respects (ever tried doing anything useful that will work in the big two main browsers). Same goes for webphones.
