City and port in central Greece, on the Pagasitikos Gulf, which is an inlet of the Aegean. Administrative capital of the region of Magnisia, one of the four regions of Thessaly.
Mostly known for the nearby mountain Pilio (Pelion), popular summer and winter resort and home of the Centaurs according to greek mythology, and its port, which once was connected to Syria, but has lost much of its importance during the last two decades.
