- The Treaty of Paris officially ends the
Seven Years' War, called the French and Indian War in North America.
In the treaty,

The Indians in the vicinity of the Great Lakes rise in revolt against
the British. The Ottawa indians, under chief Pontiac, along
with Chippewa, Hurons, and Potawatomis, lay siege to Fort Detroit
starting in July. They are unable to take the fort and leave in November.

George III issues a proclamation:

Organizing the territories of Quebec, West Florida, East Florida,
and Grenada.

Instructing colonial govermnents to make grants of land to newly mustered-out
soldiers.

Prohibiting the colonists from settling west of the Appalachians outside
the newly organized territories, reserving the remaining teritory east
of the Mississippi River to the Indians. Anyone already settled
in this area was required to return East. This last provision was another
major step on the road to the American Revolution.

Catherine the Great of Russia issues a proclamation permitting foreigners
to settle in Russia, and allowing them to practice their own religion,
but not permitting them to attempt to convert anyone.

Touro Synagogue, the first synagogue in North America, is founded
in Newport, Rhode Island.

The first Filipinos in America settle in Louisiana after escaping
from Spanish ships in New Orleans.
