The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, an offshoot of the
loose aggregations that formed around Muhal Richard Abrams' Experimental
Band in the early 60's. When jazz was thought to be at a dead end following the changes wrought by free jazz, AACM-ers like Abrams, Anthony Braxton, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago found new ways to extend the freedoms of Coltrane and Coleman. Their revamped website is now at aacmchicago.org.
