King of Kent 488-512
In the year of our lord 488, Aesc succeeded to the kingdom of Kent and reigned for twenty four years in place of the departed Hengist, his father. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle relates how this Aesc fought with his father Hengist against the British at the battles of Crayford and Wippedfleet but says nothing of his own reign as ruler of Kent.
From Aesc came the name of the royal house of Kent, the Aescingas that was to rule the kingdom for centuries to come.
After his death in the year 512 Aesc was succeeded by his son Octa.
