A Japanese term meaning "lover." Just as with the English term "lover," it generally implies an illicit affair rather than a boyfriend or girlfriend. It is more commonly used to refer to women, or in the case of a homosexual relationship, the partner who plays the more feminine "receiving" (uke) role.
