Albireo, also known as Beta Cygni, is the third magnitude Beta star of the constellation Cygnus. It is a double star with beautiful contrasting colors described differently by many astronomers, from one star being bluish to green and the other from orange, yellow, or gold. The star has also been called "The Eye of the Swan". Romantic astronomers have called the pair topaz and sapphire, and the pair are seperated at 0.5 arcmins, about 410 light years away.

The name of the constellation itself has been confused and mistranslated, which means it means nothing at all in regard to its position as the head of Cygnus the Swan.
Alberio is a binary star in the constellation cygnus. To find alberio look for a bright star in the northern sky that seems to make a cross with about eight other stars. Alberio is the bottom of the vertical cross piece. It is one of the most beautiful double stars in the sky. One of the stars in this system is an orangey yellow color and the other is very blue. This stark color contrast makes it beautiful to look at. If the two star's do orbit each other their orbital period is somewhere around 7300 years.

Alberio's location in the sky:
Right Ascension: 19h30m43.3s
Declination: 27°57'35"
