A*lys"sum (#), n. [NL., fr. Gr. , name of a plant, perh. fr. priv. + raging madness.] Bot.

A genus of cruciferous plants; madwort. The sweet alyssum (A. maritimum), cultivated for bouquets, bears small, white, sweet-scented flowers.
