Anabantid refers to a family of fish having a special air breathing organ called the labyrinth. Most fish in this family are naturally found in Africa and Southeast Asia. Among the members of this family are bettas, gouramis, and paradise fish. These fish are egglayers. Many varieties of these labyrinth fish demonstrate courtship and many will build nests as well.
