Otherwise known as herring worm disease, this is caused by the larva of several species of Anisakis, a nematode found in herring, dolphins, whales and other large sea creatures.
It is prevalent in Japan and northern Europe where there is a predilection towards eating raw fish.
Patients usually present with epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting.
