Antônio Gonçalves Dias, 1823–64, was a Brazillian poet and playwright. He is most remebered for his poem "Canção in exílio (Song of Exile)" which is widely known throughout Brazil. He loved Brazil and wrote about it and its indigenous people. He wrote a dictionary of the Tupi language and held various government posts. He died in a shipwreck in 1864 on the way to Europe.
