Overview
The Anterior Tibial is a deep vein that runs from the foot to the knee.
Course
The Anterior Tibial Vein is a continuation of the Dorsalis Pedis Vein. It runs ventral to the Tibia before passing between the Tibia and Fibula, through an oval aperature superior to the Interosseous membrane. It joins at the knee with the Posterior Tibial Vein to form the Popliteal Vein.
Etymology
Anterior refers to the fact that the vein travels in front of the Tibia. Tibia is Latin for shin-bone, pipe, or flute; the Tibia flute was once made out of the bones of animals.
