Αργεννος

A youth of great beauty, son of Pisidice, the daughter of Leucon (Table 33). He lived in Boeotia on the shores of Lake Copais. One day when he was bathing in the Cephisus, Agamemnon, who was then at Aulis, where he was waiting for favourable winds before embarking, caught sight of him and fell in love with him. Argennus fled and Agamemnon pursued him. At the end of his strength, Argennus threw himself into the river and drowned. Agamemnon arranged a splendid funeral for him and founded a temple of Artemis Argennis in his honour.
