Idea first proposed by the in lieu baseball jefe Bud Selig and voted on by Major League Baseball. This would involve eliminating two teams after the conclusion of the 2001 World Series. The two teams being most often mentioned are the Montreal Expos, who draw approximately 7,000 fans per game, and the Minnesota Twins, who have much better attendance figures, but play in what is essentially a football domed stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The two teams in Florida, the Marlins and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, are also good candidates for extinction. The Players Union is understandably upset as this would eliminate 50 playing positions. Unfortunately other avenues do not seem to have been explored by the Commissioner and others involved. For example, moving the Expos to Northern Virginia would seem to be a more viable option than killing them off entirely.
