Basil Poledouris (1945 - )
Basil Polodouris was born on August 21th, 1945 in
Kansas City,
Missouri. He attended
USC where he studied both
film and
music composition. He is widely known for his musical scores, most often as movie soundtracks. He is responsible for such great works as the soundtracks to:
The Hunt for Red October,
Conan the Barbarian (my favorite!),
The Perfect Storm,
Flesh and Blood and
Farewell to the King, just to name a few.
His most impressive characteristic is that he is the only well-known movie composer around
today that has experience in both
film techniques and
music composition.
Basil gained world-wide renown in 1996, when he performed his original piece,
"Tradition of the Games"(similar to the
Conan score in style), in front of millions of television viewers and spectators at the opening of the
Olympics in
Atlanta.
Overall, he is a marvelous composer with a wide range of musical soundtracks under his belt, from
action/
suspense movies, to children's films and romance flicks. I would personally recommend the
Conan the Barbarian soundtrack, it's excellent.
