A battle which took place in 1690 beside the River Boyne in county Meath, Ireland. It took place between two armies; one comprising of Catholic soldiers and the other of Protestant. The prize was the crown of England. The Protestants won under King William of Orange.

It has been used since by some sections of Irish society (especially in the North Eastern section of the Island) to deny the other section basic human rights.
