Little-known gemstone named after San Benito Mountain, California, where it was discovered early in the 20th century -- this is still the only place on earth that produces gem-grade crystals. Usually blue (resembling blue sapphire or tanzanite), but occasionally pink or colorless; the blue ones are often dichroic.
