A
bike circle is like a regular
traffic circle, except on a
bike trail. There are probably lots of these throughout the world but some of the most notorious of these are in the town of
Davis, the
bicycle capital of the US. One of them is in front of the biggest lecture hall on the
UCD campus. This is also a hall which has lots of freshman
classes. When class gets out, the little bike circle is full of hundreds of bikes. It is extremely humorous to watch the
freshmen attempt to navigate this during the first few weeks of school. Pileups of litereally dozens of bikes have occurred.
The other freshman-embarassing area on campus is the bike pump at the bike barn. That thing is crazy supercharged and during the process of eating lunch nearby, we have heard up to 4 people explode their tires in just an hour.
davis is a strange place.
