Bilbao is the fourth largest city in Spain, and the largest in Euskal Herria with its 500 000 inhabitants. Counting the suburbs, the area has well over 1,3 million inhabitants.

Recently converted from an industrial town, Bilbao is the capital of Euskal Herria. The Guggenheim Foundation chose Bilbao as the next place for one of its museums, and the Bilbao Guggenheim was built. The Guggenheim Museum represented the ultimate step from a industrial town to a modern high-tech city. Now the region surrounding Bilbao is the main tech-center of Spain and an important R&D site in Europe.

The main city features are the old city (Casco Viejo) with old original buildings, the Gran Via shopping street, Guggenheim museum, the stadium and the classical museum.
