Keyboardist for the Grateful Dead who came on to replace Keith Godchaux in the early 80s. His style helped take the band in a new direction, and his unique voice made for several new tunes. In 1991, he died of a drug overdose and was replaced by Vince Welnick, who learned the Dead's concert repertoire with the help of none other than Bruce Hornsby.
