Bow-wow-wow!
Whose dog art thou?
Little Tom Tinker's dog,
Bow-wow-wow!
From: The Real Mother Goose
It is amazing what use can be found for an innocent nursery rhyme. During Word War II, Danish poet Piet Hein wrote a verse very similar to the one above:
Lille kat, lille kat, lille kat på vejen.
Hvis er du, hvis er du,
Jeg er sgu min egen.
Little cat on the road
Whose cat are you?
By God, I am my own!
To the defiant Danes, the rhyme meant that even though the Germans had occupied Denmark, they would never win their souls.
Of course, it is also a rather fitting description of a real cat.
