Community service is a practice required of students in many school districts, including this writer's. Enforced upon the student is anywhere from 20 hours to in excess of 100 hours. In order to graduate and receive a high school degree, students must complete this forced labor. Community service, except when imposed by judiciary means, is supposed to be a labor of free will. Many school districts have effectivly eliminated free will for their students and now impose their own moral system on students. Is it unconstitutional for schools to impose these morals on students?
However, some may view community service as a positive enriching thing for students to participate in. Community service when performed by any party not only improves the quality of the communitity but increases the quality of life of the members of such community. There is obviously a valid argument for both sides.
