Coyote Bush, also known as Baccharus, is a common shrub in California landscapes. It is in the Sunflower family; and unlike many plants of this family its flowers are fairly bland. Its leaves are small, grey-green, and often lobed, although they are long and willow-like in the case of 'mule-fat'. This plant is generally found in coastal or foothill areas, and is quite tolerant of dry conditions. As a landscape plant, it is easy to care for, but rather bland. It is most appropriate in natural settings, where it provides excellent shelter for many animal species, and serves as erosion control.
