An
acronym for the Designated Waiting Area, a well-lit area of all
subway platforms on the
TTC. The area is furnished with extra
benches,
telephones,
closed-circuit cameras and an
intercom so that patrons waiting for trains are not so
isolated from transit staff.
DWAs are located in the same place in every
subway station as the conductor's car stops within that area. This makes it a
convenient place to meet
friends when taking the
subway.
If everyone is
punctual, anyone waiting on the platform can just jump on the train once their friends arrive.
