Dalkey is an amazing little place. Again on the
DART
line out from
Dublin, it is a small village which dates back quite a while. There is an old
Norman tower in the centre of the village. It is located on a small headland,
as such no major roads lead through the area and it is fairly quiet at the best of times. In this small
village there are 7
pubs.
I'm not sure if I can remember all of their names, but for sure you'll find a good
pint in
McDonaghs,
The Club,
The Arches,
The Queens,
The Kings Head or
the Sorento .
One of the best things about Dalkey is that it's bedrock is granite. Back in 1840 when a pig pier was needed in
Dun Laoighre all of the rock was quarried from Dalkey.
The resulting quarry, Dalkey Quarry, has become home to Irish climbers and is where I cut my teeth on trad climbing.
