35 mm, color, 1992, directed by Julie Dash One of the most visually layered and lush films of the 90's. Told in a non-linear manner with striking characters (such as The Unborn Child), the film is eye candy at worst - thought-provoking and insightful at best. It examines a Gullah family on the eve of their migration north. Set in the mid to late 1800's, the film is a lyrically potent examination African-American culture. Ebonics language is subtitled.
