Travelling into Dupont Station by
subway for
the first time can make you want to get off your
train and
look around if you've never seen it before. Entirely finished with small,
orange tiles, it is one of the most
unique stations on the
TTC's subway system because of its pop-art design.
Most of the subway stations in
Toronto that were opened for service in the 1950s and 60s are tiled with large
ceramic rectangles that randomly vary in colour by station. Dupont's
orange colour grabs your
attention right away and then you notice the platform's benches
growing out of the wall.
The station received press in
August 1995 when a
collision between two
southbound trains
killed three women and
injured 36 of others with
signal failure to blame.
Dupont is one of the few stations on the system which require
passengers to
obtain a transfer where they pay their fare as buses do not enter the station and
proof of payment is required.
