An interesting name for a theme.

Ebony is something black, Ivory is white. Paul McCartney wrote a song called "Ebony and Ivory" to talk about living together in peace and harmony, showing how the two opposites could come together.

I imagine many interracial wedding couples use it as their song. On the surface, it means Black and White people living together happily.

A few years ago, an asian kid walked into my classroom, and began singing it to a young black woman, trying to woo her over with this song. It was a very cute idea, but she was more mortified than anything.

Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony
side by side on my Piano keyboard, Oh Lord, why don't we?
We all know that people are the same wherever we go
There is good and bad in ev'ryone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
each other what we need to survive together alive.

Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony
side by side on my piano keyboard, Oh Lord why don't we?

Ebony, Ivory living in perfect harmony
Ebony, Ivory, Ooh

We all know that people are the same wherever we go
There is good and bad in ev'ryone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
each other what we need to survive together alive.
