Ελεφηνωρ
The son of Chalcodon, and through him the grandson of Abas, whom he succeeded on the Eubean throne. One day Elephenor saw his grandfather being ill-treated by a servant; he went to Abas' rescue and aimed a blow at the servant's head but his club struck Abas instead, and killed him. Elephenor went into exile to atone for his involuntary crime. Elephenor was one of Helen's suitors, and as such he took part in the Trojan War, to which he led the Euboean people, the Abantes, in thirty ships. Since he could not set foot on Euboean soil he mustered his troops from a rock which stood some distance from the shore. During the Trojan War Acamas and Demophon were his companions.
Accounts of his ultimate fate vary: according to Homer he was killed by Agenor before Troy; but other versions show him surviving the fall of Troy and settling on Othronus, an island off Sicily, from which he was driven by a serpent. After this he went to Epirus, in the area of Abantia, or Amantia.
